Kids Ahoy launches a special Mission of Love for Aklanon Kid victims of Typhoon Frank!

Posted on June 30, 2008 by kidsahoy.
Categories: Announcements.

Christmas & Valentine spirit hit us all-at-once early this year in the reeling aftermath of the devastating Typhoon Frank last June 21-22, 2008 in Aklan and other parts of the country.

We recall heartwrenching conversations with family and friends in Aklan when asked, "What do you need?" to which their answer came as, "Everything, Anything, All the basic things."

PLEASE VIEW THIS VIDEOhttp://akeanonagproud.multiply.com/video/item/1/

It hit us so close to home and as we all return to the normalcy of our lives a week after, it is our sincere hope that we remember & consider that not everyone is eating good, sleeping right, going to school, or comfortable in their own homes today and for many weeks to come…especially the children!

Kids Ahoy wants to send our LOVE to the kids of AKLAN & victims of Typhoon Frank!

The stage is set for us to show our kids a good example in one of the most important lessons in life — on how to love others and share their blessings!

Rising from the muds & the broken lives and dreams of the typhoon victims from Aklan especially the Aklanon children, is a great opportunity to demonstrate our generosity by helping those in dire need of our love and care.

Let us show our own kids that…

the heart that shares…is a heart that CARES!

Care to Share your kids pre-loved clothes, shoes, food, medicines & more?

Do you want to join a special Mission of Love for the victims of Typhoon Frank in Aklan especially the KIDS???

URGENT RE THE TRAGEDY IN AKLAN : YOUR HELP NEEDED!

Posted on June 25, 2008 by kidsahoy.
Categories: Announcements.
Let us hope that gov’t authorities will exert best effort to get through Kalibo because news coming out of our beloved hometown is still quite sketchy to date and no one seems aware of the devastation there. We don’t have any major television networks based in the province so we don’t get to see the extent of the damage or hear about what’s going on in Aklan and our kababayans who were impacted by Typhoon Frank last weekend.
It is quite frustrating that with what little bit of news that focus on the plight of our fellow Akeanons that came out so far, they do not give justice AT ALL to the personal accounts of our families and friends who went through this calamity last weekend.
PLEASE HELP SPREAD THE WORD BY REPOSTING THIS MESSAGE AND FORWARDING TO YOUR EMAIL CONTACTS!
PLEASE SEND HELP TO AKLAN  — the land of Ati-Atihan and paradise island Boracay!
Thank you to Dad Ed & Mom Jen (Ramirezes) for helping us coordinate that Aklan be included and accommodated in the mobilization of TASK FORCE NOAH (info below)!!!

Please make sure to INDICATE/SPECIFY THE FOLLOWING:
"GOODS FOR AKLAN" c/o Edsel Ramirez

or
"CASH DONATION INTENT: FOR AKLAN" (coordinated by Edsel Ramirez)

If you have any questions, please text Joanne Parsons at 0920-5178127 or email kidsahoy@yahoo.com.

reposting below from my brother’s blog.

THE TRAGEDY IN AKLAN
I couldn’t get through the phone of my mom, although she texted me yesterday that she and dad are ok in Kalibo. The only other text I got was a forwarded one — from my sister Jhera who is currently in Europe. Apparently, my mom’s other text got through and she just forwarded it to us. I guess because lines have been cut-off, there is not much media coverage coming out of Kalibo, and Aklan especially.
Fortunately, blogs have started to come out, although these are second-hand information from relatives who are from Kalibo. Let us pray for the health and safety of everyone.
I have no permission to post the blogs entirely. I will just capture the parts which show us the tragedy that is Typhoon Frank. The last three were emails from friends. I believe in times like this, someone’s information is everyone’s — hopefully to provide faster ways to solve problems, perhaps even save lives.
_____________________________________________________________________________
Just now, 115 dead bodies ang nasa plaza ng Kalibo…they don’t know the number of people died and missing."
_____________________________________________________________________________
"My auntie recounted that she and my cousin were almost trapped to death when they were in the basement of our building (it’s the commerical building on the corner of Roxas Avenue and Oyo Torong near the bridge to Numancia) trying to salvage some of their stuff when the waters suddenly came rushing it reaching almost to head level in a matter of seconds. Luckily my other cousin was there and he was able to kick the door open and bring them out."
"There are also stories of people just crossing the street who were just lucky to grab onto something when the waters came in from the overflowed Aklan river because if they hadn’t they would surely have been swept away."

"The whole province is now covered in mud now and there are is a dearth of basic resources.  A kilo of rice now costs 150 pesos and they have no supply of water and electricity. What is so sad is there is no support coming in from the local or the national government even though there are scores of people dead and injured and badly need help. The story that hit me the most was that of auntie scavenging around for a paracetamol for my cousin suffering from fever due to an infected wound."

_____________________________________________________________________________
"Regular flights are now restored though. If you are currently outside the country, then prayers are, but if you are in country, you could come home to Kalibo and bring lots of water and canned foods."

"Me and friends are working in Manila and we are all flying home tomorrow and day after tomorrow to bring in supplies for our families. Just got an SMS from my dad advising that there are no more bottled waters available in the market back there."

"If you are familiar with the C. Laserna area, all the shanties were wiped out they say."

______________________________________________________________________________
"My family owns a restaurant sa Kalibo, napuno din ng putik yung 1st floor, nasira lahat ng mga kagamitan doon. Yung bahay namin sa Numancia ng flood din, yung pader na concrete ng give up due to the strong current, 7 families ang kinupkop namin since Saturday night, naanod yung bahay, ang iba wala ng mga bubong, walang mga na save na mga damit or gamit, basta mailigtas lang ang mga pamilya nila. They need food, water, clothing and medicine. Walang business in operation ngayon sa kalibo, wala silang mapagkukuhanan ng mga pagkain at tubig…in any way. Again, Kalibo needs your help.."
______________________________________________________________________________
"I was able to contact my brother…early this morning.  Our conversation was brief because he has to save his cell phone battery.  Anyway according to him, the situation in Kalibo is pretty bad.  There are 160+ casualties mostly from C Laserna Streets and its vicinities and they are all lined up in the plaza.  Even though Capitol’s elevation is a little bit high and not too close to the Aklan River, the water inside our house was above waistline.  In fact, both Tatay and Nanay were brought/carried to our neighbor’s house for safety (thanks to our neighbors’ male helpers).  The car in our garage is also submerged in water.  When the water subsided, it left a 1-foot mud inside the house (our basement is even worse!)."
______________________________________________________________________________
"My sister’s house was damaged when the whole coconut tree fell right in the middle of their house. Just grateful to God that no one got hurt. The roofing of my Mom’s house too were damaged..Please help pray for provision and comfort as they try to re build the damaged areas. God Bless all!"
______________________________________________________________________________
"This is the worst ever Typhoon in Aklan. Worst hit was Kalibo and the surrounding towns. And what is worst is the Flood, t is not just flood but a mud flow. According to my father it came from the mountains of Libacao. It was raining there 3 days before the typhoon. the Kalibo bridge was submerged and all areas are covered with mud about 4 inches thick. Tops this is not just a simple case of overflowing river but I think a highly deforested  mountains in Libacao. A river that overflowed will not bring a thick mud. The mud could not be washed away by spraying with water, this one needs to be shoveled."

"Our house was also affected by the flood, although only the first level. worst is the mud after the flood.  Food is scarce, there is a shortage of rice supply as well as bread. the price of rice is already at P100/kilo. There is still no electricity, they also need to queue up to charge up their cellphone from someone who has a generator set and power is expected to be restored only after a month."
________________________________________________________________________
It was like a nightmare as I was listening to my sister^s story. I couldn’t imagine how fearful she was & my mom waiting for anybody to rescue them from the roof of my sister^s house in Capitol Subd. According to her, town of Kalibo was covered with mud & water. She almost died because she can^t swim. Thanks to God^s angel that time that somebody saved her. Also, glad that my mom is a good swimmer though she got a lot of bruises (she’s already 65years old..)

Until now, there^s no electricity, food supply are running out, no banks or atm machines are functioning and no medicines are available. People of Aklan really needs help!! They don^t even received assistance from the Government.

momWorks! by Lifestyle Network: Looking for working moms to be featured

Posted on May 15, 2008 by kidsahoy.
Categories: Announcements.

Saw this blog post from Baby Joaquin’s website Link  and immediately thought of how excited our Super Mommies would be to be able to contribute and participate in this worthwhile project/show. Offhand, through proactive participation in our community, we already can name off Super Mommies who will fit the "profile" that they’re looking for.

I immediately called the network and talked to Miss Camille (Acting Channel Head) just to make sure it is "legit" before I repost (for my sanity!). So, it is confirmed, Lifestyle Network is definitely looking for the below people resources so if you or someone you know would fit their description, feel free to contact the network directly. The first 3 episodes are already "in the can" meaning they’ve pretty much finished filming…

and MUCH MUCH MORE!

Everyone’s effort is much appreciated, whether you were directly involved, couldn’t make it but helped us spread the word (c/o linking to us or forwarding the event info to your contacts, etc.

To Justin, our volunteer host for Saturday opening ceremony, you have a great heart for the children at such a young age! Thank you!

To Beepsie, the great Gypsy girl-host, who carried on with the entertainment even when we were drenched in the rain under a cramped tent to ease the heartbreak everyone felt. Thank you for coming in, in full battle gear and hosting the entire Sunday. Your love for the children was evident all throughout. Everyone saw why you also make a great Teacher. I am so proud to call you my friend, my sorority sister!!! Love you Batch!

To the dedicated Kids Ahoy Fun Crew headed by Tita Jhera & Lyn, for all the pre-event support you gave us—marketing, promotions, graphics work or simply being there for moral support :)

Teachers Denise and Thea, Titas Ellen, Mimi, Bel, Eden Lolet and even our driver Kuya Mario for braving the sun and the rain for the love of Kids Ahoy and the children.

Not to forget, Kids Ahoy’s Creative Director/Head Teacher, ever so great, Teacher Aia!  I must have made you crazy with all my requests (and demands!) and the endless chatters I shared with you so I can un-burden my stress or happiness every step of the way. Maraming Salamat!!!

The Kids Ahoy Super parents especially those who came and joined the Kiddie Fashion Show & all othe Certified Kid-lovers’ enthusiasm and willingness to be a part of what we hope to achieve through the first Caravan of Fun is heartwarming :) Such spirit has always inspired Kids Ahoy to dream bigger dreams and last weekend was our giant leap into the great beyond filled with possibilities! We will always hold close to our hearts all of you who have supported our dreams thus far…We may forget a lot of details but we will always remember those who trusted & supported Kids Ahoy as we tread paths and roads less travelled in the beginning.

Lastly, allow me to get emotional heheheh

I’d personally like to thank my ever supportive husband all the way from California who unselfishly shared my phone time with him the past weeks so I can fully focus on what needed to be done for our very first public playdate ever!  Beyond that…Thank You Ed for understanding why I am at my happiest here in the Philippines and in the end, all your sacrifices will be worth it! I can’t think of a better way to live a life—a life that truly matters when we dedicate it not only to our own child, but to make other children happy as well!

And to CJ, the love of my life, the reason why I strive to be the best Mom I could possibly be, for understanding why his Mama had to do this even if at times he would complain that I am ignoring him :) The heart is overflowing with joy and gratitude…but the work we have started must continue on! We hope that you will continue to play with us in our upcoming events!!!

MARAMING SALAMAT! HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY TO ALL GREAT KIDS AHOY SUPER MOMMIES OUT THERE!

KIDS AHOY SUMMER 2008: ENROLL TODAY!

Posted on March 27, 2008 by kidsahoy.
Categories: Events.

Play. Create. Discover. Learn.
The HEAT IS DEFINITELY ON HERE AT KIDS AHOY!
******************************
KIDSAHOYSHOP.COM’S SUMMER 2008 CREATIVE PROGRAMS:
ART LAB (Tuesdays 4-6yrs 10-12pm / 6-8yrs: 1-3pm)
Art and science are key elements for understanding the world around us and the two are intimately related. Learn by hands-on participation: watch it, find it, hold it, build it. Once students internalize science through hands-on exploration, the concepts will resonate through out their everyday lives. Study the science of a sunset, and then do a pastel of the sunset. Look at a Leonardo da Vinci invention, and then draw your own similar invention idea. The idea is to combine science facts and art projects to delight the children. Geared to the visual or kinesthetic learners. Guaranteed fun!
***************
ART STUDIO (Thursdays  4-6yrs 10-12pm / 6-8yrs: 1-3pm)
A Journey Through Artists Eyes: An exploration of different works of art by famous artists from the impressionists (Claude Monet) to the surrealists (Salvador Dali) to modern artists like Alexander Calder.  Student will create their own artwork (collage, paint, color, rubbings, plant drawings, sculpture, still life drawing, block printing, wire & clay sculpture, and more) based on the artist’s artwork they view.
***************
LITTLE TREKKERS (Saturdays 2-4yrs old 10am-12nn)
This developmentally-appropriate art program is designed to let your child experience the joys of artistic play using paint,  clay, shapes, colors, textures and more! Every session, new projects will be introduced for children to provide a multi-sensory experience
that builds a foundation for creativity and an appreciation of beauty.  This program will emphasize on hands-on, experiential activities; and will incorporate music, art,  rhyming, games and other activities to heighten interest and reinforce skill building and comprehension.
***************
CREATIVE KITCHEN (5-8yrs old & 9-13yrs old, 1hr, once a week)
Imagine, Invent, Explore! This is a way for kids to cook up unique and ingenious ideas with exciting activities that will bring out and hone their creativity. This is where we challenge kids to think out of the box, see beyond and wonder “what if?”. Because with a little imagination and skill, kids have the recipe for great songs, stories and many more!

***************
KIDS CLICK (5-8 years old , 2 hour sessions)
Take awesome portraits! Create crazy U.F.O. photos! Make cool photo essays! This is a chance for kids to have fun while understanding the basic functions and techniques of digital photography. Kids will learn to be in control of the camera, develop the speed and alertness for photography and most of all be creative with what they see through the lens.  Each kid must bring their own point and shoot digital camera.

***************
SHARP SHOOTERS (9-13 years old, 2 hour sessions)
Be the master of moments. The captain of composition. The leader of light and shade. This is for kids who want to go beyond just taking pictures to taking awesome, rockin’ and imaginative pictures. Through these sessions we aim to bring out each kid’s style and
personality, to give them a way to express themselves and show the world their point of view. Each kid must bring their own point and shoot digital camera.
***************
BOUNCY BEATS (ages 1-2) / 1 hr, once a week
Share a delightful musical experience with your kid as they discover the wonderful world of beats, rhythms and melodies! Bond with your child as you listen to song tales, sing nursery rhymes and play simple musical instruments. Be in harmony with your baby as he/she begins his/her musical journey.
***************
TINY TUNES (ages 3-5) / 1 hr, once a week

more!

Plus lots of fun songs, dances and creative movement activities to experience!
***************
JUNIOR JAM (ages 9-13) / 1 ½ hrs, twice a week
